Mount Sinai South Nassau presents:

TRUTH IN MEDICINE

Do older adults need less sleep?

Q:Do older adults need less sleep?

A:No. There is a myth that older people need less sleep. That is simply not true. All adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night. There are a number of reasons, older people have trouble falling and staying asleep, including hormone changes, health conditions, medications and lifestyle habits. Try making changes in your sleep and lifestyle habits. If that doesn’t help, talk to your doctor.
